I have 8 cores and 8GB of RAM assigned to the VM and it typically uses only 10% CPU. I ran Zone Alarm for years, and switched to Blue Iris about a year ago, I found that instead of H.265 streams and QuickSync, I got better performance and still great quality using H.264 streams Direct-to-disc recording. I am wondering why you are using QuickSync. Or even looking for a AMD Ryzen Zen 3 workstation MB w/ IPMI and just run a 5900/5950X.Ĭlick to expand.I am running a Blue Iris Windows 10 VM with 8 2k IP Cameras. Granted, I'd only be able to afford the lower end and I haven't seen the model/skus and prices announced yet. And that also got me thinking that I should just wait for the 3rd gen Milan EPYCs if I'm really going to go down that road. Not sure how well Blue Iris will do w/o Intel Quicksync though.

Almost thinking to hunt Ebay for deals on lightly used 8/16/24c -7tp4f if I do go with Xeon D.Īlternatively, I was looking at the Asrock Rack ROMED8-2T - love all of the PCIe 4 slots. Just second guessing the Xeon D option since this platform now seems a bit dated and not thrilled about the potential perf impact of Spectre/Meltdown updates. Seems like this would do about what I need, but not cheap, and not a ton of horsepower. I've been contemplating this build for a couple of years, and was originally eyeing a SM Xeon D 1500 series based solution like a x10sdv-7tp4f (8c, 16t w/ 10Gps & LSI HBAs) or x10sdv-4c-7tp4f (4c, 8t, 10G w/ LSI HBAs). Looking for input on the MB/CPU options to best fit. Embedded LSI/Broadcom HBAs.Ĭase: SuperMicro 846BA-R920B (4U, 24 hot swap trays) Also Ideally: MB w/ support for a couple M.2 NVME.
